Welcome to our class!
In 2009, our class placed first in participation for the City of Santa Clarita Walk & Bike to School Days! We established a classroom account on Kiva.org with our winnings to practice persuasive writing and to learn about philanthropy!
We decided to make our first loan of $25 to a person we liked who has kids, has run a bakery (and sells ice cream) for several years, and was very close to reaching her funding goal! She paid us back in full during that same school year!
Our second loan of $25 was made on Friday, April 23, 2010 to a 34 year old man from Peru named German who has a young son. German has a 5 out of 5 star risk rating which means that our chances of being paid back are very high! He runs a pinata studio which offers music and services for children's parties and other festive events. He has paid on time and is on schedule to pay back our loan entirely in the latter part of 2011.
Our 3rd loan was made on January 25, 2011 to Lim Kimlean, a widowed farmer who lives with her two children in Takeo province in Cambodia. She typically makes US$2 each day and would like to increase her profits. She made her final payment of the loan we made to her in May 2011. She is used the money we lent her to purchase fertilizer for her farm and to raise pigs.
